Tongtian River – One of the 5 Big Rivers in China
The
Tongtian River flows through the province of Qinghai located in the southern part
of China. This river is situated in the Yangtze River Basin as well as drainage
basin of Chang Jiang River. It has three important headwaters, mainly Muluwusu,
Akedamu and Chumaer rivers. These headwaters do join together in order to form
the River Tongtian that does flow in the south eastern side to Zhimenda close
to the frontier portion between provinces of Sichuna and Qinghai in China.
Here, it turns to be known as River Jinsha or Jinsha Jiang. It is the most
significant as well as the westernmost tributary of Chang Jiang also known as
River Yangtze. The River Tongtian is one among the 5 big rivers which flow from
the headwaters located on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Planning
for biggest Hydro Electrical project
The
river has a length of eight hundred and thirteen kilometers. It drains an area
of nearly one hundred and thirty eight thousand square kilometers. Many pilgrims
from different parts of the world visit this pace as it is known as very mythical
and sacred. It is popular across the globe because of the "Gyiana Mani
stones” and Sutra Bridge. The River Tongtian is a spot that is planned by
government of China to have a large development, basically for the purpose of
production of the hydro electric power. As per the present reports in March
2014, it is declared that ten dams will be planned for River Tongtian. These
dams are from downstream to upstream in the given order.
Various
projects
In
the downstream, the first one is Sewu Dam which is planned for a project to
produce a hydro electric power of 176.8 megawatts. The second one is Xirong Dam
which is planned for a project to produce a hydro electric power of 160.5 megawatts.
The third one is Cefang Dam which is planned for a project to produce a hydro
electric power of one hundred and fifty eight megawatts. The fourth one is
Genzhe Dam which is planned for a project to produce a hydro electric power of six
hundred and twelve megawatts. The fifth one is Leyi Dam which is planned for a
project to produce a hydro electric power of 112.8 megawatts. The sixth one is
Ddequkou Dam which is planned for a project to produce a hydro electric power
of 276.5 megawatts. The seventh dam is Rouqin Dam which is planned for a
project to produce a hydro electric power of two hundred megawatts. The eight
dam is Lumari Dam which is planned for a project to produce a hydro electric
power of seventy two megawatts. In the upstream, the dams are Yage Dam that is
estimated to produce 63.6 megawatts of hydroelectric power and Marigei Dam, a
project to produce 10.4 megawatt hydro electric power.
Buddha
mantras on the surface of river
Over
icy river surface, one can find the Buddhist mantras too. It is seen in the Yushu
Tibetan autonomous prefecture of Qinghai Province. The local Tibetan inhabitants
had written the 6 Syllable Prayer using sands on icy river surface that is
known as Sutra Bridge. They did this as a prayer to God for a very prosperous
year. Initially, they wrote on frozen river and later spread sands for filling
letters. In the spring season, as ice melts, sands will fall to river bottom
and retain shape of characters.
