Naxi Dance in the Square Street

I like to watch the Naxi women's group dance on the Square Street of Lijiang, which they call it “打跳” in Chinese. Naxi Dance is the traditional group dance of the Naxi people, and the Square Street is the gathering place for residents of the Old Town of Lijiang dancing.

Naxi is a traditional Chinese ethnic minority. The Naxi has a population of 308839, most of whom live in concentrated communities in the Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County in Yunnan Province, the rest being scattered in Weixi, Zhongdian, Ninglang, Deqin, Yongsheng, Heqing, jianchuan and Lanping counties in Yunnan Province, as well as Yanyuan, yanbian and Muli counties in Sichuan Province, while a small number live in Mangkang County of Tibet Autonomous Region.

Square Street is in the core of Lijiang, with the entire city spreading out in all directions from that point. Most of the dwellings are structures made of brick and wood with carved doors and painted windows. In order to conserve the structures and maintain the integrity of the buildings, no motorized transport is allowed inside the city and the only wheeled vehicles permitted within the old town are bicycles and carts.

Naxi women dressed in their blue white and black national costume, wearing a blue hat, hand in hand in a circle, humming the tunes we can not understand, to dance with the marching neatly pace in counterclockwise turn.

Put a recorder in the ground, which play a gentle tune. Most dancers are the Naxi old aunt, their step points neatly, dancing gracefully, and show the mild character of the Naxi people.
